Farm Cottage Renovation in Bumbles Green

At this Bumbles Green cottage, believed to date from around 1600, we stripped out the original kitchen and excavated the floor to install wet underfloor heating. We rewired and replumbed the space before fitting a Benchmarx Cambridge Forest Green kitchen with dark grey quartz worktops and Amtico flooring. The original oak beam remains a feature, alongside shelves we made from scaffold boards and copper pipes. Behind the main kitchen, we fitted a utility kitchen and WC.
The work extended beyond the kitchen. We converted the garage into a heated leisure room with acoustic insulation, underfloor heating, new electrics and plastered walls. Outside, we installed composite decking and seating areas, re-tiled the small roof, created a BBQ area and space for a hot tub, and built a bespoke outdoor shower.

The project, inside and out
The client wanted rustic open shelving alongside the new kitchen. We made these shelves from scaffold boards and copper pipes, bringing a personal detail into the finished space.
From the kitchen, the dining area feels connected while keeping the cottage’s exposed beams in view. Amtico flooring runs through the space beneath the new cabinetry and island.
The kitchen and dining areas work together as one everyday living space. This view shows how the new fittings sit alongside the older features of the cottage.
We converted the former garage into the client’s music and leisure room. Behind the finished space are acoustic insulation, underfloor heating, a full rewire and newly plastered walls.
The decorative glazing remains part of the cottage’s character. The new WC and utility space sit behind the main kitchen, adding useful facilities without taking over the dining area.
Behind the main kitchen, we fitted a separate utility with worktop, storage and laundry space, leading through to the downstairs WC. It gives the practical jobs of the house their own place.
